x(trace), studies for a self-portrait

2002, 10:48

A single-channel/loop installation “motion painting” which takes Francis Bacon’s self-portraits as the starting point for a series of hand-processed film experiments resulting in a triptych “self-portrait-in-time”, full of distortions, transformations, graphic patterns, textures, colours and intensities of light - a lyrical, sensual piece with “painterly” and “sculptural” qualities moving through staccato and fluid passages which “signify how representation has proved itself to be a remarkably elastic category; more open than closed, complex and overfull of phantasmic residues”.
